Huddersfield Art Gallery (12 Oct 2019 – 04 Jan 2020)
Open Tues - Sat 11am - 4pm

This major solo museum exhibition will be a retrospective of Chris Gollon’s paintings partially inspired by music or music lyrics, from those of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Talk Talk, Thurston Moore to those of Eleanor McEvoy, with whom Chris Gollon collaborated in the last 2 years of his life. A selection of Chris Gollon’s paintings inspired by and/or related to music, which shed light on Gollon’s interest in ‘boundary crossing’, how one art form can influence another and take it into new areas of thought and feeling. This retrospective exhibition of Chris Gollon’s major music-related works, will include ‘Einstein & The Jealous Monk (after Bob Dylan)’, which was acquired in 2005 by Huddersfield Art Gallery for its permanent collection, where it hangs with works by Francis Bacon, Henry Moore, Frank Auerbach and Walter Sickert. Having represented Chris Gollon for 25 years, IAP Fine Art will co-curate this major survey exhibition, which will be accompanied by a full-colour exhibition catalogue with texts by leading writers. Pictured: ‘Gimme Some Wine – Final Version’ (after the song Eleanor McEvoy wrote for Chris Gollon), 36? x 48? (91 x 122cm) acrylic on canvas 2017. The exhibition is kindly sponsored by Williams & Hill, recommended by IAP Fine Art for all your fine art shipping needs. In 2019, IAP Fine Art and the Sleaford Mods have been embarked on a collaborative film project, entitled FIREWALL. This unique film installation—combining Chris Gollon’s imagery with the Sleaford Mods’ track ‘Firewall'(Eton Alive album, 2019)—will be shown a first time at the private view on October 12th 1.30-4pm and throughout the duration of the exhibition.

FIREWALL will also be shown at 2pm on Saturday 9th November at the Louder Than Words Festival in Manchester, supported by Arts Council England, and will be accompanied by a discussion and a Q&A session with the film makers.
