Yellow Poppies Sept 12, 2013
Description: The print, built up with layers and bleed to the edge, feel like the conte crayon drawings. Sultan's Poppies are inspired by Remembrance Poppies, the paper poppies seen on wreathes or lapels, which emerged after World War I to commemorate those soldiers lost in battle. Eight layers of inks are combined with velvety black flocking to create a print that highlights Sultan's sense of materiality and his fresh approach to the still life. Yellow Poppies, September 12, 2013, works as a wonderful pair with the Red Poppies, March 21, 2012 or by itself.
