This painting is part of Chris Gollon's LOVE Series (2011-2012), painted just after his second Residency at Durham University. During that sojourn, he was able to choose his own subject matter, and chose to look at the many forms of human love, from unrequited to parental love, love between siblings; romantic love, envy, lost love, and the love that is friendship, or the loss of that love when––as in this painting––we experience the pain of a friendship in trouble. It is featured in the recent documentary 'CHRIS GOLLON: Life in Paint' (85mins), which had its Premiere at the Barbican Centre, London in October 2024, and was screened in New York in May 2025.
