'Still Life With John Dory (III)'
Chris Gollon remarks on this painting: "This one is painted alla prima, meaning wet into wet. Painting alla prima aims from the very start at the final effect of the finished picture. In employing it, one must attend to colour, drawing and modelling all at the same time. One of these is very likely to suffer at the expense of the others. However, when it comes off, the immediateness is well worth the effort. It is actually the most difficult of the 3 techniques, but the quickest."
Born in London in 1953, Chris Gollon is a very established and highly-acclaimed name in European painting, with a recent book published on his work endorsed by Bill Bryson OBE and leading art critics, many solo museum shows and major museum acquisitions, including the British Museum. His work has been widely and positively reviewed in the national press, including being chosen as 'Critic's Choice' in both The Times and the Financial Times.
