Andy Warhol returned to his roots as a commercial illustrator when he created Shoes 255 in 1980 for his Shoes portfolio. The monochromatic screenprint shows an array of different styles of women’s shoes in white with a solid black background. The work is completely covered in diamond dust, a gift Warhol received from a friend at the factory and then incorporated into his artistic process. Shoes 255 is an homage to the pop artist’s early career and exemplifies Warhol’s love for all things glamorous.
