Blooming of red
I spotted these poppies growing on a roadside verge on a beautiful sunny day and could not resist capturing them.
I was particularly drawn to the shape of the curving stems on the poppy buds and the brightness of the red petals with the summer light shining through them from across the nearby field.
This piece began as a blank canvas, the open countryside and myself. I was alone amongst the grass, fields and trees. I painted all afternoon waiting for the evening light to arrive. The canvas was full of marks and colour ready for me to continue working on it in my studio.
I used heavily textured technique to put movement into the painting bringing it to life.
