Andy Warhol created this portrait of Marilyn Monroe in 1967 for his portfolio of 10 screenprints honoring the iconic actress. Celebrity and the way Marilyn’s exponential fame grew even greater after her death fascinated Warhol. Andy appropriated a publicity photograph of Marilyn and screenprinted it in his signature pop art colors. In Marilyn Monroe 30, the actress’s hot pink face pops against the teal background, with her hair and features printed in a seafoam green accented with pops of bright orange. Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe screenprints are some of his earliest celebrity portraits, and arguably his most iconic works.
