Arty-Fact: Kali Puja (Bengali: কালীপূজা), also known as Shyama Puja (Bengali: শ্যামাপূজা) or Mahanisha Puja, is a festival dedicated to the Hindu goddess Kali, celebrated on the new moon day of the Hindu month Kartik especially in Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Assam. It coincides with the pan-Indian Lakshmi Puja day of Diwali, also know as Deepavali.
One of the most worshipped of the Hindu Goddesses, Kali is a manifestation of the Divine Mother and also the consort of the God Shiva. Those not understanding her many roles in life call Kali the goddess of destruction. She destroys only to recreate, and what she destroys is sin, ignorance and decay.
