Original vintage lithographic poster on woven paper.
Published in the French newspaper Le Courier Francais, supplement on January 26, 1896.
Signed on the lower left "Imp Chaix (Atelier Cheret)" in the stone.
Cheret created Saxoleine for the lamp oil company, and it is among the series of 20 posters Cheret designed over the course of a decade featuring a beautiful woman lit up while holding a lamp. In each work, the woman's dress, the lamp shade, and her position slightly change. Some consider this series the first modern advertising campaign. This is a classic and important work, with vibrant fresh colors.
