Glorification of the Virgina
Original woodcut on laid paper, c. 1502-4
Monogrammed 'AD' at the lower center.
by Albrecht Durer
The Glorification of the Virgin is from his famed suite The Life of the Virgin, which chronicles Mary's life story. Here, in the final work for the suite, Mary is pictured holding the infant Christ, while cherubs and a host of saints dance and celebrate her life.
This fine and even impression was probably taken after the 1511 Latin Book edition and in the mid-sixteenth century.
