Richard Smith CBE, British 1931-2016- Bucklee, 1972; oil, wood and canvas, signed and dated 1972 on the reverse, 225 x 90cm (ARR) Provenance: Christie's, 21 Mar 2013 lot 162; Roger Hilton Gallery, where purchased by the present owner. Note: “Bucklee” is a pun on the name Stephen Buckley, a dear friend of Richard Smith's who owned works by the fellow Pop artist. There were several works in a series - including a large piece which apparently hung in a Neal Street Restaurant. We're not sure that that one is still in existence. With thanks to the Richard Smith Estate for their assistance cataloguing this lot.
