This original watercolour (with gouache) is from a series of works Maggi Hambling painted while on a trip to Ireland in 1992, where this image was painted. The Lake Isle of Innisfree, an uninhabited island on Lough Gill, County Sligo, a place remembered from his childhood, inspired WB Yeats famous eponymous poem.
