Tranquility, serenity or peacefulness are words represented much alike in Japanese kanjis. All these meanings sure represent the culture and feeling of the traditional Japanese arts too. It was during the Heian Period (794 – 1185 CEE) that gold or silver foil took main presence in Japanese visual arts, as heritage from the Chinese painting.
Korin and Kansei series by Takashi Murakami employ this use of golden and silver backgrounds, textured with skulls in many of this works, over which he displays colorful and vibrant flora.
