I KNOW NOT, I KNOW
Offset lithograph with silver on paper hand signed and numbered by Takashi Murakami of a limited edition of 300. Published by Kaikai Kiki Co. Ltd, Japan.
Takashi Murakami's work is marked by the consecuenes that the World War II had to his country. Death and life speeches, colive with a similar strong speech about how tradicional Japanese culture merges with western culture and the way they have built today's Japan. His work confronts these terms with vivid and bright colors, which give a hint about the optimistic inner self of the artist.
If flowers mean peace, happiness and positivity, skulls are a synonym of war, sadness and mortality. In this work, Takashi Murakami uses really vivid colours to counteract that bunch of negative feelings making us feel comfortable in front of this appealingly macabre whole. This is confusing because, do we feel comfortable if death is presented as something nice?
