Amerapoora. My-au-dyk Kyoung.

Photograph printed by Grieger, Dusseldorf, on high quality Rag Photographique Paper. Hand signed and numbered by the artist on the back. The photograph is presented inside a black portfolio folder that includes texts by Thomas Ruff and Martin Barnes, Senior Curator of the photography department of the V&A Museum.

Amarapura was the capital of Myanmar twice during the Konbaung period, first between 1783 and 1821 and then again between 1842 and 1859. Today, it is part of Mandalay, the second biggest city in the country. It has many temples, pagodas and kyoungs (monasteries) that were not even built or completed when Tripe took his pictures back in 1855.
