This work is pretty peculiar since Takashi Murakami rarely separates colours in such a clear way when he depicts his skulls's sets. According to the artist, the skulls always come in many, as mortality concerns us all. The fact that the sides are so clear and monochromatic may be a reference to the past, to all that is no longer with us which memory fades away.
