Because Takashi Murakami's series of Skulls and his opposite series of Flowers achieved an enormous success, the Japanese artist decided to create a self-parody combining both. The result was this Flowers & Skulls series in which this work, Signal, is among. These works remain of American Abstract Expressionism for their all over pattern but also to classic still lifes in which flora and skulls took the lead.
As for the artist, always looking for change and evolution, the Flowers & Skulls series dance in between joy and terror, happiness and sadness, peace and war. The tension is served.
