Man with Fly
Original painting by Chris Gollon (1953 - 2017) in acrylic on board, in its original frame.
In the late 1990s, Chris Gollon was innovating painting through his interest in artistic boundary crossing, and his experimentation in the use of fine artist's acrylic paints, which dry much quicker than oil allowing him to be as prolific as he could. In this period critics and certain people in the art world were saying "painting is dead". To survive Gollon would paint more affordable smaller works; still life or heads. These became popular among his following of collectors.
This work comes to us from the Paul O'Grady Estate, since Paul was an avid collector of Chris Gollon's work, and this is mentioned in the recent documentary 'CHRIS GOLLON: Life in Paint' (85mins), which had its Premiere at the Barbican Centre, London in October 2024, and will be screened in New York in May 2025.
