Singing Sculpture
Singing Sculpture
By Gilbert and George
Gilbert & George are a British artist duo, consisting of Gilbert Prousch (born 1943) and George Passmore (born 1942), who have been collaborating since the 1960s. Known for their bold and provocative approach to art, the pair became famous for their large-scale photo-based works that often blur the line between performance and visual art. They are recognized for their unique style, which often features their own likenesses—presenting themselves as living sculptures—and for using vivid colors, graphic patterns, and sometimes controversial subject matter. Their work tackles complex themes such as identity, sexuality, religion, and societal norms, reflecting their interest in social commentary and the human experience. Despite being widely known for their conceptual art, they have consistently eschewed traditional distinctions between "fine art" and "popular" culture.
