Additional Information

Jeremy Deller has generously produced Trudging Across A Field To The Stone Circle, 2022, a limited edition print to coincide with the exhibition, Radical Landscapes, at Tate Liverpool, 5 May – 4 September 2022.

Deller has long been fascinated with stone circles and has been making work about Britain’s most iconic stone circle, Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England, for over a decade. In 2012, he famously made a full-scale inflatable replica of Stonehenge, titled Sacrilege, and more recently, in 2019, created a work in the form of a typical British road sign which reads ‘Stonehenge Built by Immigrants’. His interest lies in the mystery and intrigue around the stone circle that leads hundreds of thousands of people to make journeys across the rural landscape to visit them each year. Deller, whose work often draws inspiration from social rituals and history, notes that ancient stone circles ‘have been pilgrimage destinations for thousands of years. The structure remains the same; the people making that quest have just changed.’ His limited edition, Trudging Across A Field To The Stone Circle, 2022, evokes the ritualistic nature of visits to these ancient sites, the strength of the connection that people feel towards them and the diversity of the communities, from ravers to rural explorers, that congregate around them.

Each print in the limited edition, Trudging Across A Field To The Stone Circle, 2022, is signed and numbered by the artist and comes unframed.

Prices of the artwork are liable to change. As a limited edition sells out, prices of the artwork are subject to increase and the price will be clearly indicated.

Jeremy Deller (b. 1966, London, UK) is an artist and media polymath who often works collaboratively to create works, projects and public events, carrying a political, social, or cultural message. He has an interest vernacular and folk cultures, the symbolism of prehistoric monuments such as Stonehenge, and how these form a part of British identity that needs preserving but also should be profoundly questioned and subverted. His works raise questions of the sacredness and untouchability of spaces, social codes and emblems of power, particularly political, economic and religious powers.

Deller won the Turner Prize in 2004 and was awarded the Albert Medal of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (RSA) in 2010. He was selected to represent Great Britain at the Venice Biennale in 2013. Recent solo exhibitions include: Warning Graphic Content, Art concept, Paris, and The Modern Institute, Glasgow (2021); Folk Archive, The Burton at Bideford, Bideford (2020); Wir haben die Schnauze voll, Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn (2020).
