Nick Walker Solo Show Unspoken Words | Galerie Brugier Rigail, 23/03/2017 - 15/04/2017
Nick Walker is one of our founder's favourite artists. We are delighted that Nick has a great looking solo show coming up in Paris.
Please go along if you have time, you will not be disappointed. All information below is taken from the official press release from Galerie Brugier Rigail. You will notice the English translation is not perfect, however we believe this adds to the character of the written piece.
" It's with great joy that we exhibit Nick Walker’s work again. While discovering his new work, a new tack is brought to light. Vandal evolves, sometimes flirting with abstraction in the coded work series. This display is a synthesis of his classic work and of his experimentations, letting us have a glance at his inspirations. This brings some questioning: Is Nick willing to make Vandal disappear? Will he be erased, replaced? ...or will he just evolve? That remains a mystery. This recurrent character in Nick Walker's work is familiar, we share his numerous trips. Maybe He is the one coming along with us. Be that as it may, we are very fond of him. Some kind of silence is hovering over those canvases, projecting us to our own reflections. The work we're presenting at the occasion of this "Unspoken Words" display is an overview of Nick's wide work as well as an open window on the future of his work. Anyway, his world really lies here, a phantasmagorical universe, the expression of his humor, along with his vision of the world projecting us to our cities limbo. With Vandal, we are a party to his schemes; the witness takes part and turns into a gentleman-bad boy. So, what are those meaningful silences?"

About Nick Walker.......
Nick Walker is one of the most famous street artists in the world. Born in 1969, he was a part of the infamous and avant-garde Bristol graffiti scene from the early 80's. As a pioneer of the phenomenon of British graffiti, Nick’s work became a model for hundreds of emerging artists. His work is in constant evolution and always innovative, modern and exciting. Nick bases his work on the graffiti energy and images but he manages to combine the freedom that they give him with an excellent mastery of the stencil. The results are very sophisticated and impressive. The methods that he uses keep their strength and their integrity on a traditional support, the canvas. Nick Walker’s immediately recognizable humor and style have allowed him to achieve international fame. In 2008, his shows have been sold out in Los Angeles and London, where collectors were sometimes waiting more than 24 hours to be among the first to get one of his prints. In 2008, his iconic work Moona Lisa was sold for more than ten times its estimated value during an auction at Bonhams.
"In 1992 I began to combine stencils with my freehand work, which allowed me to juxtapose almost photographic imagery with the rawness which evolved from conventional graffiti styles. Stencils introduce an impact element to my work. The appeal of stencils is that they allow me to take an image from anywhere, dissect any part of life, and recreate it on any surface. I try to add an element of humor or irony to some paintings to add a little light relief to the walls. Painting is a form of escapism for me and if my work allows the spectator to do the same thing, then I’ve achieved more than I set out to do" Nick Walker
