The Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation presents Sailing to Byzantium. 6 New York Artists in Venice, a project curated by Richard Milazzo and hosted at Palazzetto Tito. The exhibition brings together prints by Donald Baechler, Ross Bleckner, Peter Halley, Vik Muniz, Peter Nagy, and Walter Robinson.
Taking inspiration from W. B. Yeats’s Sailing to Byzantium, the show traces a passage from the New York art scene to Venice, conceived here as a symbolic threshold. Printmaking – thanks to the key role of Giovanni Tiboni and Fabjbasaglia Contemporary Prints – becomes an autonomous field of experimentation, where images, memories, and symbolic systems are reinterpreted.
On view: Baechler’s textured engravings, Bleckner’s atmospheric etchings, Halley’s reliefs, Muniz’s perceptual constructions, Nagy’s semiotic play, and Robinson’s direct pop imagery.
