L'école de "baile" à Grenade
Among Lunois' finest paintings. In excellent condition, with luminous colors.
Lunois painted this canvas in the summer of 1908, during his final visit to Spain, a country whose art, landscapes, and people had influenced him profoundly.
This painting is reproduced in Edouard André, ANDRE LUNOIS: PEINTRE, GRAVEUR ET LITHOGRAPHE (Paris: Floury, 1914), p. 93 (see picture).
André had obviously seen only reproductions of this painting: he refers to it as a "pastel". And yet even on that basis he considered it one of Lunois' most important works, and discusses it at length (see pp. 92-98), emphasizing that this painting breaks with the French stereotypical depiction of Spanish women.
A masterpiece.
