The Public Relations Plate
Fine china plate with gilded edge
8.27 x 8.27 in (21.0 x 21.0 cm)
Artist stamp on reverse.
Excellent, 'as new' condition.
Notes: A gold-edged porcelain art plate goes over a detail from the "public relations" section of Grayson Perry's Map of the Days engraving.
Map of Days is a very unusual self-portrait, taking the shape of a map of a fortified city. The areas in and around the city correspond to the life events, experiences and emotions of artist Grayson Perry.
Perry describes the city as dependent on the landscape in which it is located: "I absorb the influences and ideas of the landscape in which I find myself." This portrait was loosely inspired by a map of John Bunyan's 1678 allegory, ‘The Pilgrim's Progress.’
